TOEIC Word of the Week

“open to (something)”

(adjective phrase) To be agreeable to learn or hear about new ideas or suggestions.

When you are “open” to something, it means you are willing to listen to someone’s idea or are willing to do an action.  It does not necessarily mean you agree with someone or think that an action is the best action.

Examples:

Most members of the class were open to the teacher’s ideas.

I was open to the human resource managers suggestions on improving staff teamwork, even though I didn’t think they would really change anything in the office.

Our TOEIC Words of the Week are words or phrases you will often see or hear on the TOEIC, but are not easy to find in dictionaries.  All of these words can be found in in our Master the TOEIC: Strategies e-book!
